Seaweed Jobs and Skills Workshop

As part of the ongoing GS3 work to assess the viability of a seaweed industry for Gippsland, a Seaweed Jobs and Skills Workshop and key Stakeholder discussion group was held online in February.

This workshop focussed on the potential jobs and skills required for a commercial seaweed farming industry, and how these skills may align with existing skills in the region, particularly those from workforces going through transition in Gippsland.

The workshop involved short presentations and collaborative discussion from stakeholders about what needs to happen in order to facilitate the development and training of a commercial seaweed industry workforce in the Gippsland region. There are a number of supporting materials from that workshop now available including;

  • a workshop recording

  • summary notes

  • a copy of the chat and answered questions

  • all the slide decks from the featured presenters

GS3 ( Smart Specialisation) is a collaborative, evidence based approach to regional development, utilising the region’s existing strengths to promote innovation and regional competitive advantage. The Entrepreneurial Discovery Process workshops aim to unit experts and representatives from each of the four key sectors
(Government, Education/ Research, Industry and local community ) to discuss key issues that will provide evidence and direction for a proposed project.
