Due to the changing conditions of Victoria’s COVID landscape and restrictions, the Assessor Skills Set Program has been postponed until February 2022. We encourage businesses in the horticulture and food processing industries to look at their workforce between now and then to identify potential participants for the program. New dates and registration links will be updated when confirmed.

Background and information on the program

Being a supervisor and/or having training and assessment responsibilities in the horticulture and food processing industries can be challenging, and often via natural progression, people find themselves in supervisory roles with little or no formal skills in training and assessment.

The only solution to date has been to do the generalized training and assessment skill set module as part of the Certificate IV for Training and Assessment.

In collaboration with Food & Fibre Gippsland, leading Gippsland Industry training organisation, FGM Consultants is unpacking and demystifying the training and assessment skill set and creating course content specific to the horticulture and food processing industries.

The course will be held over four consecutive days in a face-to-face learning environment – broken up into two blocks of two days each – starting with a Thursday and Friday, and finishing on the following Monday and Tuesday, with the assessment component of the course to take place on site at the workplace for each participant.

Successful completion of the course will result in competency selected units from the TAE program These units can provide credit transfers in the full Certificate IV in workplace assessment, with a credit transfer / RPL available into the full certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

The course is ideal for business owners, supervisors, quality assurance staff, training managers, human resource managers, general managers and even leading hands who, whilst having valuable on the job experience, don’t have any formal qualifications in training and assessing their staff.

The course is also striving to establish a common language across the industries, making it easier for employees to transition from one workplace to another, minimizing any down time generated by learning new training and assessment practices in a new workplace.

The teaching group will be a maximum of 12 people, with all assessments and related projects to be completed in each participant’s workplace. Participants will get the maximum benefit from the face to face teaching environment, however the course can and will be adaptable to any changes in capacity rules and covid-safe directives.

The course has been made possible via Food & Fibre Gippsland’s Workforce Training and Capability project, and all participants must register their interest with details of their current role and supervisory capacity. Registration is free, but a fee will be incurred if a registration is cancelled - $25 for FFG members and $100 for non-members )
