Land, Water and Biodiversity

The West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority is pleased to announce the release of the Draft West Gippsland Regional Catchment Strategy for public consultation.

The Draft West Gippsland Regional Catchment Strategy (RCS) is being renewed for the fourth time, building on the success of previous strategies.

The RCS is an overarching strategy that responds to the challenges such as population growth, climate change and declining biodiversity.

It incorporates community and Traditional Owner priorities with those identified in government policies and legislation.

Next steps

The public consultation period will extend from the 3rd September to the 1st October. During this time the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority will continue to engage with RCS partners to further develop some details of the RCS relating to the Draft regional outcomes.

Following consultation, appropriate updates will be made to the Draft Regional Catchment Strategy. The final strategy will be considered by the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority's Board prior to being submitted for Ministerial approval.

Identification of implementation priorities will be undertaken in collaboration with RCS partners and the community through a series of Local Area forums following ministerial approval of the Regional Catchment Strategy.
