Investing in Mature Age Workers

Small businesses with less than 20 employees have the opportunity to participate in an important project with the Department of Education, Skills and Employment - and receive a $1000 voucher for their time.

The Department wants to work with small businesses to see if tailored approaches can increase employment opportunities for mature age workers who are over 55.

This opportunity follows on from research identifying employment barriers for mature age workers.

The Department wants to work in partnership with businesses between June and November this year to develop supports tailored to your business’ unique requirements.

Outpost Consulting will be involved in the project, applying their expertise in social research. Outpost Consulting will facilitate interviews, workshops and other activities with you to understand the unique challenges your business has, and develop tailored solutions for you based on your input.

Your details and responses will remain confidential at all times.

What’s involved?

You may be asked to:

• Participate in phone or online interviews to learn more about your experiences and needs

• Attend a virtual workshop to develop supports tailored to your needs

• Test approaches and tools

• Provide feedback on the effectiveness and appropriateness of the supports you use.

Is my business eligible to participate?

Your business can participate if you are:

• A small business that has less than 20 employees

• Available to take part in the research activities between June and November 2022

• Small businesses in the hospitality, retail and care industries are particularly encouraged to register.

What are the benefits for my business?

You will receive a voucher for $1,000 at the completion of the project as a thank you for your insights and time.

You will also receive strategies tailored to your specific circumstances that you can continue to use to recruit and retain high-quality employees once the project is complete.

Mature age workers have a valuable contribution to make to Australian workforces, including:

• Bringing extensive knowledge, life skills and work experience to your business

• Enhancing your team’s performance through mentoring and coaching

• Providing a diverse perspective to your business’ strategies and products

• Being reliable, efficient and hardworking, with transferrable skills forged over many years.

Your business may also be eligible to receive a wage subsidy to hire and retain mature age workers who are 50 years and over.

Register your interest in participating by May 31 and someone will be in touch to discuss your participation.
