Forestry Careers Collaboration

Collaboration is at the core of everything we do at Food & Fibre Gippsland, and with the forestry industry making up a significant part of the fibre sector, we are working closely with the Gippsland Forestry Hub on a number of initiatives and activities.

At the Latrobe Valley Jobs Fair held recently in Morwell, our Business Operations Manager Tova Wilshansky joined Lesia Clarke from the Gippsland Forestry Hub to host a workshop for job seekers about the many (and varied) roles in the industry.

We were able to give people insights into some of those roles via our This is My Job Series, where we have showcased a range of secure, long term jobs at a busy family owned timber mill, as well as careers in one of Australia’s largest privately owned timber plantation companies.

Jess - Seed Orchard Technician at HVP Plantations.

“Hearing directly from people about their roles and what they enjoy about working in the industry is really helpful for job seekers or those considering a career change into forestry and timber related businesses” said Tova.

Gippsland Forestry Hub Lesia Clark was delighted with the opportunity to co-present at the Jobs Fair.

“Forestry is a huge industry in the fibre sector – but doesn’t always get the exposure it should as a stable and growing industry with a real diversity of career options”" she said.

Our collaboration with the Gippsland Forestry Hub continues well beyond the Jobs Fair as we work together to help launch their innovative Forestry Taster Program Pilot in June.

This pilot will offer up to 20 people the opportunity to participate in a fully funded 3 day course that will provide some fantastic insights into how rewarding the forestry sector can be, and what a solid career path it can offer.

Attendees will finish their course with 2 certificates;

  • FPICOR2205A: Follow OH&S Policies & Procedures

  • FPICOR2203A: Follow Environmental Care Procedures and the Forest Operators Learning card (FOLS)

Both of these courses provide an excellent starting point for entry level roles in the forestry sector.

More details on this course will be available soon. If you’d like to register your interest to take part, please email your details so we can add you to the intake list.
