Community Outreach Events

The National Recovery and Resilience Agency and Rotary Australia Community Outreach Events are coming to local Gippsland communities in February 2022 to provide support and advice on the drought, bushfire, flood and other challenges.

These events will bring together all levels of government, charities, not-for-profit and agricultural organisations, including Food & Fibre Gippsland to support farmers and rural and regional communities living through the immediate and longer-term effects of bushfire, drought and flood.

It is an excellent opportunity for farmers, families and rural communities to grab a sausage sandwich, catch up with friends and neighbours and find out what support is available during drought and tough times.

The Community Outreach Events, part of the Australian Government’s Drought Community Outreach Program, are coming to the following East Gippsland towns in February 2022:

  • OMEO - Monday 14 February - Omeo Soldiers Memorial Hall from 8:30am to 12:30pm

  • NOWA NOWA - Wednesday 16 February - Nowa Nowa Public Hall from 10am to 2pm

  • BUCHAN - Thursday 17 February - Buchan Mechanics Hall from 10am to 2pm

  • MALLACOOTA - Friday 18 February - Mallacoota Mudbrick Pavilion from 8:30am to 12:30pm

The Agency’s aim is to ensure people and communities are given the support they need to be better prepared now and into the future.

Rotary will be distributing $500 vouchers to drought-affected households and conducting community well-being activities at the outreach events. The outreach events provide opportunities for face-to-face, confidential conversations with farmers and community members experiencing the impacts of drought.
