Rise to your food or fibre challenge

Gippsland is one of Australia’s leading food and fibre regions, with the industry worth $7 billion to the Victorian economy.

Businesses in Gippsland’s food and fibre sector are great at growing things. But everyone could use some help to grow their business and create new opportunities. We know that innovation can drive great outcomes in the food and fibre sector, but not everyone has the time, resources or support they need.

Do you know a Gippsland business in the food and fibre sector with a challenge, opportunity or problem? Perhaps it’s your own business or belongs to someone you know. The challenge might be a product needing more research and development, a training and knowledge gap, outdated technology, a kink in the supply chain, a need for waste innovation, or something else entirely.

By entering the What’s Your Food or Fibre Challenge, Gippsland? competition, taking on those challenges could lead to greater opportunities, unlock huge potential and even revolutionise local businesses and transform the food and fibre industry globally.

The competition

What’s Your Food or Fibre Challenge, Gippsland? is funded by the Gippsland Regional Partnership and developed by Federation University Australia and Food & Fibre Gippsland, with partnership and support provided by Regional Development Victoria, Food Agility CRC, Food Innovation Australia Limited (FIAL), Latrobe Valley Authority and TAFE Gippsland.

In the coming months, we’ll be providing user-friendly templates and activities to help entrants tell us about their challenge and create a compelling pitch to enter the competition.

Up to 10 finalists will be selected and each project will receive comprehensive research and innovation support, funding and collaboration from experts and leaders in business, science and the food and fibre industry.

The resulting projects will help businesses overcome their challenge in ways that deliver real value for the individual business and have a positive impact on the industry as a whole.

The program aims to contribute to the growth, prosperity and sustainability of the region, sparking innovation that not only benefits our communities and businesses, but leads the way for the food and fibre industry nationally and globally.

To kick off this exciting initiative, we’re holding a launch event on Friday 12 March from 9.30am to 11am at Federation University’s Morwell Innovation Centre, located at 1 Monash Way, Morwell (corner of Monash Way and Princes Drive).

Liz Fleming – The Efficiency Coach is a business mentor and accountant with a farming background, having grown up on a sheep and beef farm in NZ.

She knows a thing or two about creating efficiencies in business with her hands-on farming experience and her corporate finance experience in large and small organisations. She is the efficiency expert who hates seeing time and resources being wasted!

Nobody has time to waste by doing things twice or unnecessarily or not at all (when it’s kind of critical!)… it’s all about making sure the right person is doing the right task at the right time, to drive more profit, give you more time, leading to a more fulfilled lifestyle.

Liz has achieved this by creating processes, documenting them in a structured way and communicating these to the staff so they understand how they fit into the big picture and the overall business. By mapping out the processes and identifying the interdependencies can make a huge difference to business operations.

Her clients rave about her ability to identify new ideas, ask those challenging questions about the reasons why things are done certain ways, and critically analysing whether those processes are serving your business well.

Sometimes it takes a new person’s perspective to change the way to create the efficiencies desired by us all.

The EFFICIENCY AUDIT involves:

  • A comprehensive review of your business operations, systems and processes

  • Identification of ways to improve your efficiencies to create effective and more efficient ways to operate

  • A site visit so Liz can better understand your business and gain a real insight

There are limited spaces available, so email or phone Liz today to find out more about how to start 2021 in the most efficient way.
