As one of the most versatile and sustainable bioresources on the planet, from nutritious food to bioenergy, seaweed is able to sequester carbon at a rate over 30 times greater than terrestrial forests. It was a US$16.5 billion industry in 2020. This article discusses seaweed aquaculture in Gippsland and the launch of the Gippsland Seaweed Innovation Network.
