Have Your Say on Energy Transition

The Victorian Government has recently released the Victorian Transmission Investment Framework (VTIF) consultation paper and summary for communities.

Gippslanders are invited to have their say on Victoria’s once-in-a-generation energy transition.

To enable this transition there is a need to modernise and upgrade Victoria’s transmission network to support cheap renewable energy across the state and transport it to where it is needed.

The shift to cleaner renewable energy will deliver the affordable, reliable and secure energy needed for the future whilst helping deal with climate change by meeting emissions reduction targets.

This preliminary framework sets out a proposed approach for developing Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) that enables timely co-ordination of investment in transmission, generation, and storage infrastructure.

The approach seeks to better integrate land use considerations, environmental impacts, and community views into the planning process.

The Government wants to make sure this is done in the most orderly and strategic way to deliver the best outcomes for Victorians, so they are seeking input from Traditional Owners, stakeholders, local communities and key industries like agriculture.

People are encouraged to share their thoughts on the proposed approach to planning a next-generation grid at: engage.vic.gov.au/victorian-transmission-investment-framework
